18. yüzyılda şu an Belçika’nın bulunduğu bölgede önce Fransa-Avusturya savaşıyla sonra da Avusturya aristokrasisiyle ezilen halkın tek umudu ünlü haydut Jan de Lichte olmuştur. Köylerden ve şehirlerden kovulan halkın yaşayabilecekleri tek yer ormandır ve burada yaşayan kovulmuşlar, aristokrasiye karşı bir araya gelip Jan de Lichte’in önderliğinde birleşmeye başlarlar.
